Why choose us?

There are many choices available when selecting an accounting firm to meet your needs. When considering whom to choose as your chartered professional accountant, there are some advantages to each firm size, and some distinct differences in the approaches of all firms. As a small practice, we offer personalized service and a simple, efficient structure that our clients will appreciate. We are approachable and easy to work with. Our service-centered model, combined with low overhead costs gives us the ability to offer our experience and knowledge at competitive rates.

We also bring something unique to our industry. We take more of an interdisciplinary approach to our thinking than what is typical in this profession. While we hold a leading Canadian business and accounting credential -- the CPA, CA -- we also have social science degrees. Mycroft graduated with a BA in political science and Ira with a BSc in economics, before diving into our accounting professions. We have been immersed in both private and public sectors in southern Alberta and the west coast. This background along with our more than 25 years combined experience in public practice is valuable when we engage with our clients and examine the bigger picture, to identify trends in public policy, taxation, the economy, technology and business in Canada and elsewhere. In recent years this has only become more complex to distill as significant tax changes get proposed, postponed, later enacted and in some cases rescinded, even at the 11th hour.

The firm and its practitioner are approved by CPA Alberta, in accordance with legislation, to operate in the practice areas specified as the appropriate education, practical experience and professional development requirements have been obtained and verified. The firm is required to maintain rigorous procedures, a quality assurance manual and proper documentation of client work. Those, along with a sample of completed client files, are selected and reviewed by both peer reviewers and CPA Alberta at regular intervals to ensure compliance. Furthermore, the practitioner and all professional staff are subject to the rules of professional conduct and continued professional development, so as to ensure awareness of the latest developments in accounting, assurance and tax standards.
