Mycroft Schwartz, CPA, CA
Mycroft graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Arts in political science and completed his accounting prerequisites at Camosun College, also in Victoria. After about a decade working at the University of Victoria both during and after student life, he moved to Calgary where he articled in a small local firm and successfully completed the Uniform Final Evaluation (UFE) and became qualified as a CPA, CA in 2015. He acquired that practice, which has been operating as Schwartz & Company since 2017. Mycroft brings over 12 years of experience to public practice providing a variety of services including accounting, assurance and tax services to small and medium-sized enterprises, not-for-profit organizations and individuals in a professional, timely and cost-effective manner.
A firm believer in community engagement, he has volunteered on boards in both Victoria and Calgary. Mycroft previously served as the secretary and later treasurer of the Palliser Bayview Pumphill Community Association from 2015 to 2021 until he moved to a different community in Calgary. He has a wife, two children and a small dog (who is essentially a furry toddler for life). When he is not working, he can be found playing with the kids, being walked by the dog, following current events and politics, watching Star Trek, sampling craft beverages, hiking, swimming or ice skating.
Ira Schwartz, CPA, CA
Ira graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Science in economics and completed his accounting prerequisites at Camosun College and the University of Athabasca. He has about 14 years experience in public practice and became qualified as a CPA, CA in 2013. Prior to joining his brother Mycroft in 2019 at Schwartz & Company as associate partner, he worked in small and medium-sized accounting practices in both Calgary and Melbourne, Australia. With an enthusiastic and passionate approach to tax and accounting technical topics and the ability to explain complex matters simply, he has developed a strong rapport with clients, co-workers and members of the profession. His years of experience working in multiple countries including Canada and Australia allows him to bring a unique perspective to not only tax and accounting matters but to the broader challenges in business. He provides services including accounting, assurance and tax services to small and medium-sized enterprises, not-for-profit organizations and individuals.
He has a wife and two children. When he is not working or trying out a new recipe in the kitchen, he likes to play squash, ski and watch soccer (go Liverpool!). For most of 2018 he traveled the world with his wife, exploring several continents and gained a deeper appreciation for the diversity of the world.
If you visit the office, you can tell which of the Schwartz brothers he is as he is the one who has retained most of his hair (for now anyways).
Irina Schwartz, BA, BEd
Irina graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in history and English and from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Education. She has been instrumental in the design and administration of the office since inception [editor note -- and is probably the power behind the scenes]. When she is not helping her husband Mycroft and brother-in-law Ira at Schwartz & Company, she teaches high school in the Calgary area and loves to swim, walk and hike with her family.
Lucky Schwartz, CPA*
Lucky Schwartz, *Canine Professional Assistant, has worked (if you can call it that) at the office part time since 2019. She loves to interact with clients and has snored her way through countless meetings. We do bill 100 percent of her time when she joins client meetings; however, her bill-out rate is $0 so we do not feel this is a problem. While she is a hypoallergenic breed (some sort of yorkie mix) and usually friendly, she is happy to continue her nap in a different room for those who are not so canine inclined.
